welcome
moving emotion, with empathy
“A person is a fluid process, not a fixed and static entity; a flowing river of change, not a block of solid material; a continually changing constellation of potentialities, not a fixed quantity of traits "

A Personalised Therapeutic Approach
In a safe and welcoming place, let's take time to centre on you, the expert in your life.
With gentleness and compassion I offer a commitment to empathetic listening. There is a universality in suffering, but we each have a very personal narrative of distress.
Grounded in a humanistic approach I work with the evidenced-based principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (as endorsed by the World Health Organization). Attunement, creativity and psychological flexibility are at the core of my work. We will focus on what's happened to you rather than "what's wrong with you".
Maybe you arrive with concerns relative to anxiety, depression, addiction, grief, performance, panic or pain. Maybe feeling 'stuck', distant, or detached from the kind of life you would like to lead, is creating distress and emotional dysregulation.
We will look at you as a whole person, consider the story of Self, resilience, culture and family context.
As an accredited ACT practitioner I blend experiential learning, metaphor, mindfulness and contextual formulation as strategies for healthful change and workable growth.
Let's aim to illuminate shadows, befriend the nervous system and co-create an adaptive psychological flexibility.

What is ACT?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an empirically based psychological intervention based on the philosophy of Functional Contextualism and Relation Frame Theory. ACT uses three foundational pillars of openness, awareness and active engagement and emphasises the observance of thoughts and feelings as they are. The aim is to flexibly realign your life to resonate with your values, and find workable strategies to reorient your energies for longer term success. In ACT we work with our very human experiences of pain as in inevitable part of a rich and meaningful life. ACT recognises that struggling to avoid inescapable pain (both psychological and physical), causes more pain. Language can entangle us and trap our thoughts, feelings and behaviours, leading to inflexibility and being stuck. We can collaborate to change this relationship, with the use of empathic listening, experimental exercises and metaphor creativity as a guide to our therapeutic work.
